Graham Godwin-Pearson and Jeff Savage have been discussing plans to move the Cheddar Recycling Centre to a new site nearby.
At times, the current location causes traffic to build up as people queue to drop off their recycling, especially when the gates are closed for the plant vehicles to move materials and skips around. This causes issues for people accessing Kings Fitness and Leisure.
In addition, the site is small and awkward, with steps up to where some heavy waste is dropped off.
The new Recycle More scheme, which collects more materials from the kerbside, should reduce the number of trips a household takes to the Recycling Centre, but the layout and size of the current site isn't future-proof and causes congestion.
Graham says, "What Cheddar needs is a larger, purpose-built site, preferably with a raised one-way system around a central space for the skips and machinery. This works very well in at the Highbridge Recycling Centre, which is efficient even at the busiest times.
"If elected, Jeff and I will be looking at potential new local sites for the Cheddar Recycling Centre, within existing industrial or brownfield space."
