Homeowners in Cheddar, Axbridge and Shipham are being advised to check if they are eligible for energy improvement grants of up to £10k.
The money can be used to improve insulation, or replace existing heating with solar, heat pumps etc.
To be eligible for the grants, the residents of the property must have a low income (receive means tested benefits or have a gross household income below £30,000 per annum) and the EPC for the property must be rated D, E, F or G. If there is no EPC for your property, you can still apply and it doesn't matter who your energy supplier is.
Applications for the Green Homes Grants Scheme close at the end of March 2022 and there's more information here: Somerset Independence Plus.
However, residents are reminded to be wary of phone calls or someone at your front door offering 'free' solar panels or 'free' cavity wall insulation, offering no-cost deals and energy pay-back deals on energy generated by the panels.
Whilst many of the companies are legitimate and can offer financial assistance (depending on your circumstances), it is always worth just checking with Centre for Sustainable Energy on their advice line (0800 082 2234) as, unfortunately, there are also some companies who are less than reputable.
