From the end of this month, all households in Cheddar Valley will be able to put more materials out on the kerbside for collection. The Recycle More scheme has been well publicised and all households now have one of the new blue bags to use for plastic and tins.
Because the collection day for many homes is changing (see your Recycle More leaflet for your new collection date), Somerset Waste Partnership are also scheduling an extra, one-off rubbish collection (black wheelie bins only) for thousands of houses in the next few weeks, to ensure that nobody goes more than 3 weeks without a bin collection as the routes changes.
If your household is included, this extra bin day will be printed in the green lozenge on the front of your Recycle More leaflet.
Cllr Graham Godwin-Pearson, says, "Recycle More has been a long time coming, and I'm delighted that it's finally upon us. Somerset is already a leading authority for recycling and the ability to put more items out on the kerb each week will only strengthen that position further.
"I've always been enthusiastic about recycling, writing to retailers, supermarkets and distributors, raising the issue in public meetings and most recently working with Sedgemoor on Recycle More, as well as recycling everything I can at home. It's one of the simplest ways in which we can all do our bit for the environment.
"Please look out for the leaflet and keep it somewhere safe. Together, we have an impact on reducing the amount of waste that goes to landfill."
From the start date advertised in your leaflet, the recycling containers will be used as follows:-
- Your existing black box will contain paper and cardboard
- Your existing green box will be used for glass and food cartons, including TetraPak
- The new blue bags will be used for plastic bottles, pots, tubs, as well as tins, foil and aerosols.
- Small electric items and batteries go into a bag next to the boxes
- The brown food waste bin is unchanged
Graham has a couple of spare blue bags, so if these have been delivered to your street, but your household was missed out, please send him a note and he he drop one round to you: [email protected]
