District councillor Graham Godwin-Pearson attended a meeting tonight with Stonewater, the developers building the new Mendip View estate in Axbridge (not to be confused with Houlgate Way).
He wanted to confirm how sustainable the homes will be and suggested some mitigation techniques for increasing renewable energy on the site and improving biodiversity.
Graham says, "It's important that we take into consideration all possible measures to help meet Net Zero targets, and where possible generate more renewable electricity than is needed by the homes themselves. We must also provide habitats for wildlife even in smaller, infill sites like Mendip View. I'm happy to hear that Stonewater are listening and implementing many such policies already."
Every home will have solar panels and an electric car charging point, and a wide wildlife refuge is being created along the edge of the site.
