Sedgemoor District Council has held its last meeting, since it will dissolve on Friday, to be replaced by the all-encompassing Somerset Council. Council leader Duncan McGinty spoke about the achievements of the council and some of the past councillors and officers he has worked with during his tenure.
Council CEO Bob Brown also spoke, as did the opposition leaders and the last Chairman of the Council, Alan Bradford.
Sedgemoor District Council was formed in 1974 to encompass Bridgwater, Highbridge, Axbridge, Cheddar and all of the villages in between. Under its Conservative leadership it has been known for providing good services and keeping council tax low.
All of the services and functions provided by Sedgemoor will be handed over to Somerset Council on Vesting Day, 1st April.
