Work has started on a pedestrian crossing across the A38 near the New Inn at Cross. Axevale councillor Graham Godwin-Pearson says, "The island and markings will make crossing the A38 at this busy junction much safer.
"It is an ambition of mine to connect the communities of Axbridge and Cross and I fully support the Cross Lane Footpath Campaign to create a safe walking and cycling route between the town and the village.
"The crossing at Cross is an important step in securing this aim."
Getting to this point has taken a while because a crossing requires street lighting, which itself must be preceded with a bat survey. The work should take a couple of months.
