Cllr Graham Godwin-Pearson and Jeff Savage have expressed their sadness that Cheddar councillor and chairman of Somerset County Council Nigel Taylor has announced that he has months to live.
Having declared his cancer diagnoses in February 2021, Nigel addressed full council to thank his colleagues for their friendship and support.
He said: "I feel like I've joined a family. It doesn't matter about your politics - each one of you has brought in something valuable.
"I don't think I'll be about in April - my surgeons are very tight-lipped. Thank you for your understanding, your support and your friendship. Thank you all and goodbye."
Nigel Taylor became councillor for Cheddar in 2017 and has served the community in many respects: as a Mendip District Councillor, a member of Cheddar Parish Council, Chairman of Wells Conservative Association and a member of the local AONB board.
A keen caver, he has been very active as a member of the Mendip Cave Rescue team.
Jeff Savage says, "Nigel has always been a good soldier to have on your side - a man of many parts and many talents.
"He is very much part of the Cheddar community and we wish him and his family the very best over the next few months."
