Following years of work, Conservative councillors have secured a proposal from Somerset County Council to change the speed limit in Weare and Allertons to 30mph. Residents have long complained about speeding vehicles and are well aware of how dangerous the roads can be at higher speeds.
The new 30mph zone includes the following:-
Sparrow Hill Way, Weare - From a point 47 metres east of the junction with Notting Hill Way in an easterly direction for a distance of 1,210 metres
Notting Hill Way, Chapel Allerton - From a point 914 metres south of the junction with Sparrow Hill Way in a southerly direction to the junction with Wheatsheaf Lane
Rectory Hill, Chapel Allerton - For its entire length
Front Street, Chapel Allerton - For its entire length
Mark Road, Chapel Allerton - From the junctions with New Road, Front Street and Scotland Lane in a south westerly direction for a distance of 600 metres
Weare Road, Stone Allerton - From the junctions with Wheatsheaf Lane and Notting Hill Way in a south easterly direction to the junction with Rawlings Way
New Road, Stone Allerton - From the junction with Stone Allerton Drove in a southerly direction for a distance of 438 metres
Copsewood Lane, Stone Allerton - From the junction with Stone Allerton Drove in a southerly direction for a distance of 490 metres
Front Street, Stone Allerton - For its entire length
Stone Allerton Drove, Stone Allerton - From the junctions with Front Street and New Road in a westerly direction for a distance of 468 metres
County Councillor Bob Filmer says, "I'm very pleased to have been able to work with the local Parish Councils and Somerset Highways to see these much needed speed limits introduced to help improve safety on our local country roads. It just shows what we can achieve when we work together."
District Councillor Graham Godwin-Pearson says, "I'm delighted that the County Council agrees with the communities living along Notting Hill Way and in the Allertons that these roads should be 30mph. The new speed limit will make these communities safer for pedestrians, children, dog walkers, cyclists, horse riders, and motorists."
