For a long time there has been flooding on Notting Hill Way by the Ashton Windmill. The build-up of water, from rain and local springs, is a danger to traffic, since most vehicles move into the middle of the road to avoid it.
Following discussions at Parish Council meetings recently, Graham Godwin-Pearson, who represents Axevale ward, met with representatives from Chapel Allerton and Weare Parish Councils and the Highways Team from Somerset County Council at Ashton Windmill, to discuss the problem.
Various solutions have been proposed to reduce the amount of water that can build-up on the road. In addition, better signage has been requested to alert drivers to the danger, and there will be a traffic speed survey along the whole stretch.
Graham says, "As with so many long-running problems like this, there is no single quick-fix. In the long term a culvert may be required, but for now, measuring traffic speed will help to give us some data and better signage will hopefully reduce the risk of accidents as drivers attempt to avoid the water."
