The Conservative administration in Sedgemoor has earmarked money in the council budget to investigate the extension of the Strawberry Line in Cheddar.
£50,000 has been ring-fenced for a feasibility study into improving the cycle and walkway in the village, and was announced by Conservative leader Cllr Duncan McGinty.
The Strawberry Line currently runs between Yatton and Cheddar and the proposals are for the route to extend to Draycott and connect up ultimately to Shepton Mallet via Wells.
Cllr Graham Godwin-Pearson says, "The Strawberry Line is extremely popular and key to encouraging more people to get out walking and cycling in the area. We welcome the funding for the feasibility study to make the traffic-free route even better."
