Cllr Graham Godwin-Pearson has today heard from the Road Safety team at Somerset County Council that the signs he has requested for Badgworth, Weare and the Allertons, will be installed by April. These will alert drivers to the presence of horses in the villages and remind them of the two golden rules of passing horses on the highway:-
1. To reduce speed to 15mph, and
2. To leave a gap of at least 2 metres when overtaking
The British Horse Society is kindly lending a hand with the signage and accompanying awareness campaign.
Graham says, "The South West has more road accidents involving horses than any other region of the UK and these simple measures will keep horses, riders and drivers safe and reduce the number of accidents involving horses on our roads."
